Southeastern Freight Lines to Integrate GeoLogic Solutions’
MobileMax with Existing Handheld Computer
LTL carrier will equip fleet of 2000 with
new solution
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – December 8, 2004 –
GeoLogic Solutions, the industry’s first company to
offer a mobile communications and tracking system that combines
satellite and terrestrial networks into a single intelligent
solution, today announced that Southeastern Freight Lines,
one of the nation’s premier LTL carriers, has selected
GeoLogic to deliver its next-generation wireless communications
solution. With several hundred units already deployed, Southeastern
plans to equip its entire pickup-and-delivery fleet of nearly
2,000 trucks with a customized version of the company’s
MobileMax™ Multi-Mode™ system.
The customized solution integrates the carrier’s
handheld computer and vehicle applications with multi-mode
network services, mobile applications and hardware based
on GeoLogic’s MobileMax system. Dispatch, GPS location
reports, two-way messaging, barcode scanning, package tracking,
and cross-dock operations are among the applications and
features provided in the system. Southeastern and GeoLogic
have been testing and refining the solution for more than
a year, and the carrier has now announced its plans to accelerate
deployment of its entire fleet.
Based in Lexington, S.C., Southeastern Freight Lines serves
more than 58,000 customers across a wide area of the Atlantic
region and southern United States. The carrier has maintained
a reputation of on-time delivery that set the standard for
the LTL industry, winning over 265 quality awards from some
of the most respected companies in America.
“For quite some time we have evaluated various options
for equipping our fleet with a wireless data solution,”
said Braxton Vick, executive vice president at Southeastern
Freight Lines. “The MobileMax multi-mode system gives
us the coverage, cost effectiveness, communications reliability,
and flexibility we need to justify this critical technology
implementation. With benefits for us in productivity and
customer service, this is an important step in Southeastern’s
drive for continuous improvement.”
Southeastern drivers will utilize an in-cab hand-held computer
integrated with GeoLogic Solutions’ patented multi-mode
system. The system uses a least-cost-routing approach that
automatically switches between land-based and satellite
communications without driver or dispatcher intervention
to ensure complete coverage and more cost-efficient communications.
MobileMax, the company’s leading multi-mode solution
built for the transportation industry, has been rapidly
accepted and now serves hundreds of fleets including some
the country’s premier carriers.
“The agreement with Southeastern Freight Lines represents
a great opportunity to extend the profound advantages of our
multi-mode offering to a new segment,” stated Ken Mitchell,
vice president of sales and marketing. “It is a natural
extension of our technology and business strengths, and speaks
to the flexibility of our solutions in adapting to the needs
of various segments in the transportation industry. Southeastern’s
commitment to the system is a major win for our company.”
