Sharkey Transportation Puts GeoLogic
Solutions to The Test
HERNDON, Va. – March 1, 2005 – GeoLogic
Solutions, a Platinum Equity company, today announced that
Quincy, Ill-based Sharkey Transportation, Inc. (STI) will
equip its entire fleet with the company’s MobileMax™
Multi-Mode™ communications system, a mobile communications
and tracking system that combines satellite and terrestrial
communications into a single solution.
After an extensive evaluation that involved the integration
of three of the leading mobile communications and tracking
providers into STI’s in-house software system for an
extremely detailed head-to-head product comparison, GeoLogic
Solutions’ MobileMax system was selected based on overall
performance, cost and communications coverage.
“We really put MobileMax to the test and they were
by far the best fit for our company,” stated Jack Sharkey,
president of Sharkey Transportation. “One of the products
was less expensive but the coverage wasn’t reliable
and the other product had comparable pricing, but the monthly
communications bill was much higher. The MobileMax system
was more flexible, gave a faster response and was less expensive
to operate.”
An irregular-route common and contract motor carrier founded
in 1971, STI uses a wide variety of vehicles including reefers,
dry vans, bulk tankers and flatbeds to meet the needs of its
diverse base of over 3,000 customers. The decision to install
a mobile communications and tracking system was made not only
to meet the increasing demands of customers and improve operational
efficiency but also to improve driver work conditions.
“I drive a truck myself so I have a lot of empathy
for the driver and I know it’s not an easy job,”
stated Sharkey. “We do all we can to make their job
as easy as possible. Providing them with the MobileMax system
takes a lot of the guesswork out of their routine. The drivers
receive their next assignment and get directions without pulling
into a truck stop to locate a telephone.”
